September Fishing Report Central Florida

All good things come to an end or at least get slowed down from time to time and that is what happened to the St. Johns river this last few weeks with all the water from Fay.
Before She decided to move in on us and dump over 20 inches of rain the bass fishing had been very good with lots of Bass being caught on the drops and deep weed edges but now all we can hope for is to not have another fish kill like we had in ‘04 floods after the ‘canes came.
For those that are not aware yet the river is off limits and will be for some time, I have heard reports up to as much as 90 days predicted.
High water may have slowed fishing down on the river but the Mosquito lagoon backwaters has gotten better with the high water making new places that the Redfish have to forage around in and feed .
Be very quiet and let the wind drift you or pushpole yourself along the clear shallows close to the banks and you will see Redfish cruising and feeding. They can be caught with topwater plugs,  live shrimp and artificial twitch baits.
Trout and Snook have also been caught in the deeper holes surrounding these same areas that Redfish are holding ,if you need to anchor it is best to use the Stickit anchor pin as opposed to the power pole (because of motor noise)or rope and anchor method because these fish are spooked easily.
Good luck and I’ll see you on the water,
